A missing 13-year-old snowboarder died after he was found unresponsive on a popular Oregon mountain, deputies said.

Authorities responded at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, to Mount Bachelor, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The teen from Anacortes, Washington, had been reported missing to ski patrol who then found him unresponsive near the Sunrise Express chairlift, deputies said.

They performed life-saving efforts and took him to the medical facility on the mountain, but deputies said he died from his injuries.

No one saw what happened to the boy, but it’s believed he crashed into a tree, authorities said.

Deputies said he had been wearing a helmet.

His identity isn’t being released, and the investigation is ongoing.

Mount Bachelor is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Bend.
