Authorities arrested a 31-year-old man in Kentucky suspected of slaying Courtney Valencia Clinton, who was found dead in her car in central Vancouver Nov. 1, according to a Facebook post from the Vancouver Police Department.
Vancouver detectives’ investigation led them to Montgomery County, Ky., where Dariel Nunez Montero was in custody on unrelated charges. Clark County Superior Court on Friday issued a warrant to arrest Nunez Montero on suspicion of first-degree murder. He remains in custody in Kentucky while awaiting extradition to Clark County.
At about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 1, a man called 911 to report he’d found a dead woman and a baby inside a parked car on Blandford Drive. He initially thought the woman had been shot in the back of the head, and he said there was a lot of blood inside the SUV. He also said the baby was crying, according to a search warrant affidavit.
The child was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center as a precaution. Officers said the child did not appear to have any traumatic injuries, court records state.
Officers determined the woman, later identified as Clinton, a 31-year-old Portland resident, possibly had her neck cut by an edged weapon.
