On April 6, 1950, the city of Vancouver moved to annex around 4.3 acres of county property to add to Leverich Park. The addition increased the park to slightly more than 45 acres. On April 10, 1975, members of the Clark County Coalition of Senior Organizations came together to urge the Vancouver City Council to support the construction of a new senior center. Before giving their commitment, councilors wanted the Parks and Recreation Department to study senior citizens’ needs and community resources. City officials worried about overall costs, as money from the state or federal government would likely not be available to support the project.
