Washington men’s rowing glides to victory on Vancouver Lake

No. 2-ranked Huskies sweep No. 22 Oregon State

The reigning national champion University of Washington men’s rowing team made a quick splashdown at Vancouver Lake on Saturday.

No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association rankings, the Huskies glided to victory in a men’s two-team dual regatta against No. 22 Oregon State.

Washington teams took the top three places with the Varsity Eight race and finished one-two in the Varsity Four race at Vancouver Lake Regional Park.

Washington’s A team in the eight-man race covered 2,000 meters in 5 minutes, 41.76 seconds to finish just over three seconds ahead of the Washington B team. Oregon State’s A team placed fourth in 5:55.01.

In the four-man race, Washington’s A team finished just under two seconds ahead of the Huskies B team, covering 2,000 meters in 6:30.97. Oregon State’s A team placed third in 6:34.07.

Washington is coming off a sweep of all races at the Benderson Cup on March 29 in Sarasota, Fla. Last weekend, the Huskies also won each race at the Paup Cup regatta hosted by Stanford.

Washington will host the Windermere Cup on May 3 on the Montlake Cut. This year’s annual showcase features teams from New Zealand and Indiana University.

The IRA national championships are May 30 to June 1 in Cooper River, N.J.
