Clark College athletes Ryan Koenninger and Delaney Bollman were both honored by the Northwest Athletic Conference for recent standout performances.
Koenninger was named NWAC men’s track and field athlete of the week for March 31-April 6.
The sophomore from Skyview High School clocked the fastest time in the NWAC this season in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on April 5 in a meet hosted by Linfield. That time of 9 minutes, 50.79 seconds ranks 10th all-time in Clark College history.
Bollman pitched Clark softball to two victories and delivered at the plate. On April 2, the freshman from Evergreen High was the winning pitcher in the first game then went 5 for 5 with four RBI in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Chemeketa.
Three days later, Bollman allowed just six hits and walked none in a 5-3 upset of Mt. Hood, which entered the game with a 20-3 record.
Baseball
Record: 11-12, 4-4 NWAC West.
Last week: The Penguins swept a Saturday doubleheader over Gray’s Harbor then split a Sunday doubleheader in Aberdeen against the Chokers.
Kenneth Hall pitched a five-hit shutout in the Sunday finale as Clark won 14-0. Rylan Taguchi, Quentin Anguay and Trevin Long each had two hits.
Tyler Ramelli started Saturday with a stellar performance on the mound, allowing nine hits over nine innings in a 7-1 victory. Long went 3 for 4 and Evan McGuire went 2 for 4 with four RBI.
Clark then finished the Saturday sweep with a 9-2 victory. Taguchi’s two-RBI double highlighted a sixth-run fifth inning.
This week: A busy week for the Penguins begins by hosting Southwestern Oregon (15-15) at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Clark then hosts Lower Columbia (34-2) for a doubleheader Friday at noon before heading to Longview on Saturday for another noon doubleheader against the Red Devils.
Softball
Record: 10-20, 6-10 NWAC South.
Last week: After splitting a doubleheader against Yakima Valley on Friday, the Penguins went 1-3 at a crossover tournament on Saturday.
Clark began crossover play with a 15-11 win over Pierce College before falling 14-4 to Blue Mountain, 12-11 to Douglas and 11-7 to Walla Walla.
On Friday, Delaney Bollman scattered 12 hits and struck out seven as Clark beat Yakima Valley 4-2 in the second game of the doubleheader. The freshman from Evergreen High School also had an RBI single and scored on Annali Lindesmith’s two-run tiebreaking double in the sixth inning.
This week: The Penguins travel to face Clackamas (18-13, 10-5) in a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. Clark then hosts Chemeketa (14-20, 5-11) in a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
Track and Field
This week: After a weekend off, the Penguins will compete Saturday in the Larry Byerly Invitational hosted by Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
