President Donald Trump now says that to make America great again, Americans must endure the “temporary discomfort” of paying higher prices for everything. This is thanks to the administration’s haphazard and lazy approach to tariffs and governmental dismantling.
Just some of the temporary discomfort from these tariffs and the indiscriminate governmental downsizing: Higher costs for groceries, housing, health care and child care; job losses and chaos for businesses. Imagine more people edging toward homelessness and hunger, overwhelming hospitals and police.
As most of America experiences temporary discomfort, Trump has big plans for the influx of funds he expects will flood into his governmental coffers. He has directed Republicans in Congress to work hard to immediately pass major tax breaks benefitting corporations and wealthy Americans.
Yes, much of America’s government is bloated, unaccountable and wasteful. And yet, much of what our government does is vital to Americans and the world in so many ways.
