Letter: Keep fluoride, protect teeth

I noticed with interest that Camas has decided that the wise move is to remove fluoride from the water.

My dad had no fluoride in his water and had replaced almost all of his teeth by the time he died at 96. By the time I finished high school, after drinking from “pure wells,” I had every surface of my teeth filled and have since had three teeth pulled. My husband also has many fillings and one tooth pulled. Our three children have had 10 fillings between them. We are in our 80s, our kids are in their 50s. When we did not have fluoride in our water, the kids got fluoride treatments on their teeth every time they went to the dentist.

When you decide as a city, or an individual, talk to your dentist, don’t follow what the news says. Truly research it from the experts who deal with tooth problems every day. Yes, fluoride in excess can cause problems, but the way it is used now in most water systems, it is safe. However, the elimination of it will certainly help the dental profession.
