Letter: Musk is costly to America

The Department of Government Efficiency brags it has saved $130 billion (a figure that has been fact-checked as inaccurate). I suggest they save a real $5.9 billion by cutting the National Security Space Launch award just given to Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.

If Musk is really committed to slashing the federal deficit and balancing the federal budget, he just needs to slash government contracts that benefit him and his companies, and quit taking all of the beneficial loans, subsides and tax credits that have helped to make him the richest man in the world. At the very least, he could thank the American taxpayers who have sacrificed so he could get rich.

Who needs good schools, parks, safe medicines and medical research, critical weather forecasts, IRS tax collections, access to Social Security and Medicare services, consumer financial protections and a host of other government services and departments that we count on? I for one say let’s keep the $5.9 billion awarded to SpaceX and put it toward the many government services we count on each and every day to make our lives better.
