Weather Eye: Outdoor Easter egg hunts best planned for Saturday

What can I say? Monday was heaven’s delight in the realm of weather. It was a bonus since it was also my birthday, and I really enjoy afternoon temperatures in the 70s. The entire week looks like fair weather and a few more 70-degree temperatures.

With modern based climate data and artificial intelligence, all I had to do was ask how many times it has rained on my birthday since I was born. Surprisingly it has rained on less than half of my birthdays. Considering April abounds with showers, it is not all that bad.

The next chance of showers is on Easter Sunday but as you know that will change most likely that far out. Outdoor egg hunts are best on Saturday if those are in your plans. The ball fields will be dry all week as spring baseball gets underway. Folks will be out in the gardens for sure. Hey, I might even wash my car today.

Vancouver is running one-half inch below average with the rainfall this month. It’ll be a while before we add more drops in the rain gauge. The average mean temperatures are 1.8 degrees above normal and that will rise quite a bit this week. I had a good frost Sunday morning at my house. Vancouver officially dipped to 34 degrees, the second time this month. With warmer daytime temperatures, I don’t foresee another frost this week.

Take some time from your busy schedule and sit outside and soak up some natural vitamin D. The garden will be happy this week as well but beware outlying areas can still have a killing frost. Be ready for any cold nights. We’ll be past that threat soon.

Another reminder if you are interested in learning a little more about weather, Clark College as part of their Prime-Time/Lifelong Learning series will offer Weather 101 at the new Ridgefield campus. It begins from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on May 7 for five weeks. Learn basic weather reading skills to help the gardener, hiker or outdoor person. Learn to read weather maps, interpret cloud formations, understand our local climate and gain practical weather knowledge. Taught by a USDA Graduate School-certified meteorologist and former NOAA/NWS Portland office forecaster. Go online at https://tinyurl.com/4s2juj4t.

Enjoy your week under fair skies. No record highs heading our way but well above the normal high of 62 degrees. Take good care.
