Prep highlights (April 16): Columbia River girls golf takes 2A GSHL 18-hole event

Maia Carrillo tied for the medalist honor with an 82 to lead Columbia River to the team title at the 2A GSHL Invite on the Greenback, an 18-hole girls golf tournament at Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland on Wednesday.

Carrillo, a junior, shot an 82 to tie for first place with Jana Knapp of Mark Morris.

The third member of the first-starting trio on Wednesday — Washougal freshman Addison Paul — was one stroke back at 83.

Evangeline Fulton of Ridgefield (85) and Saylor Lacross of Columbia River (90) rounded out the top five.

All-Region Sports Awards Ceremony

The Columbian will be hosting its second annual All-Region Sports Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at The Hilton Vancouver Washington.
The event will be 6-8 p.m. Admission is $15 and includes food and drink. Tickets are available now by clicking on link.

River won the team title with a total of 379, followed by Washougal (413) and Ridgefield (449).

River baseball gets leg up in 2A GSHL

Columbia River baseball beat Ridgefield for the second time this week, giving the Rapids an early advantage in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.

River’s 9-3 win Wednesday has the Rapids off to a 4-0 league start. It also earned the Rapids a season sweep over a Spudders program that shared the league title with River last year and was the 2A GSHL champ in 2023.

Charley Eisenhauer went 2 for 3, including a triple that kicked off River’s three-run top of the first. He also doubled to lead off the seventh, in which as the Rapids scored four runs to put the game away.

Rapids starter Harrison Hoffarth scattered seven singles over 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking none.

Stars of the day

  • Mckenzie Bowling, Ridgefield softball, went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI in a 17-3 win over Hockinson.
  • Ruby Lew, Columbia River softball, went 2 for 3 with a triple, double and six RBI in a 29-0 win over Hudson’s Bay. She also pitched five no-hit innings, striking out 13.
  • Emma Barrow, Woodland softball, went 3 for 3 with a double in a 14-0 win over R.A. Long.
  • Paisley Fraidenburg, Mark Morris softball, went 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI in a 15-0 win over Washougal.
  • Nick Niday, R.A. Long baseball, went 3 for 5 including an eighth-inning double that drove in the go-ahead run in a 8-7 win over Washougal.
  • Gavin Beckley, Woodland baseball, pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out four and walking one in a 10-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Tucker Morrow, Mark Morris baseball, pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and two unearned runs in a 5-2 win over Hockinson.
  • Mackenzie Moore, Prairie softball, went 3 for 4 with two doubles in a 6-2 win over Battle Ground. She was also the winning pitcher, striking out 12 over seven innings.
  • Fatou Bojang, Fort Vancouver girls track and field, won the triple jump in a personal-best leap of 32 feet, 4 inches at a Trico League home meet. She also won the 300 hurdles and led off the winning 400 relay team.
  • Bryceson Petracca, Seton Catholic boys soccer, scored a hat trick in a 8-0 win over Kalama.
  • Ian Johnson, La Center boys soccer, had three goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Onalaska.
  • Robert Chavarria, Evergreen boys soccer, scored both goals in the second half of a 2-0 win over Kelso.
  • Caden Goode, Skyview boys soccer, had a goal and an assist as the Storm earned a 2-2 draw with 3A GSHL leader Heritage.
  • Jackson Radi, Mountain View boys soccer, scored the first two goals of a 5-0 win over Prairie.
