Prep highlights: Columbia River girls golf capture Titan Cup title for first time

Camas, Ridgefield baseball earn walk-off victories

Maia Carrillo and Saylor LaCross won their alternate-shot match in the morning, then both posted wins in the singles match in the afternoon, leading the Columbia River girls golf team to victory in the Titan Cup tournament at Orchard Hills Country Club in Washougal.

It was River’s first win in the Titan Cup girls tournament. Only Camas and Union had won the event which dates back to 2010.

Carrillo and LaCross teamed up to beat Ava Robertson and Lacey Brown 5 & 4 as Columbia River beat Battle Ground 2.5-0.5 in the alternate-shot matches.

River beat Camas 4-2 in the championship round decided by singles matches.

Carrillo beat Chloe Wu 4 & 2, while LaCross beat Lauren Suar 1-up.

Olivia Brende also earned a win in singles for River.

Wu and Jessica Yang earned a win in alternate shot, as well as Ella Schmidt and CC Bee, as Camas beat Union 2-1.

Camas baseball walks off Union

Anthony Forner drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the Camas baseball team to a 3-2 win over Union.

Dawson Sheffield led off the bottom of the seventh with a singled and was sacrificed to second.

Cai Davis and Cade Lukens drew walks to load the base, then Forner drew a four-pitch walk for the win.

Christian Scanland threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Rylan Howe struck out 10 over six innings for the Titans.

The win put Camas (3-1 league) alone in first place in the 4A Greater St. Helens League.

Spudders rally for 3 in seventh to beat Washougal

Landon DeBeaumont singled home Chase Duncan with the tying run and Caleb Tortora came home on an error with the winning run, completing a three-run seventh for the Spudders as Ridgefield rallied to beat Washougal 8-7 in baseball.

Washougal took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh when Jared Gottsch and Jake Blankenship opened up with back-to-back singles.

Tortora’s single to right brought home Gottsch to make it 7-6.

Washougal got the next two outs before DeBeaumont connected to send the winning play in motion.

Gottsch was 3 for 4, DeBeaumont was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Wyatt Hemmelman had two doubles and Liam Ostrom hit a two-run home run for the Spudders.

Stars of the day

Noah Tadema, Hockinson baseball, went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI and threw 5.1 solid innings as the Hawks held on to earn their first win of the season by beating R.A. Long 7-5.

Jase Wong, Skyview baseball, went 2 for 4 with two runs, a double, stolen base and three RBI in a 9-3 win over Battle Ground.

Adam Swanson, Kelso baseball, struck out 10 over six innings, went 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh in a 5-4 win over Mountain View.

Zach Sims, Columbia River baseball, went 2 for 4 with a run and a double in the Rapids’ 8-2 win over Hudson’s Bay.

Tucker Morrow, Mark Morris baseball, went 3 for 5 with a two runs, a double and RBI in a 6-4 win over Woodland.

Mckenzie Bowling, Ridgefield softball, went 3 for 4 with two runs, a double, walk and two RBI in a 12-1 win over R.A. Long.

Makenzie Henthorn, Mark Morris softball, struck out 15 in a two-hit shutout and went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in a 7-0 win over Columbia River.

Charlotte Newton, Hockinson softball, went 1 for 1 with two runs, triple, three walks and three RBI in a 23-3 win over Hudson’s Bay.

Jocelyn Kender, Seton Catholic softball, struck out 10 over seven shutout innings in a 2-0 win over Camas.
