Railroad maintenance to begin on Lucia Falls Road

Clark County Public Works is scheduled to begin maintenance work on its short line railroad along Lucia Falls Road. Along with maintenance work, crews will also trim trees and clear brush and vegetation.

As the owner of the railroad, the county is required to maintain the infrastructure to meet regulatory requirements. Construction is expected to begin in late April or early May, depending on weather conditions.

The work area is between mileposts 23.16 and 24.3. During construction, drivers may experience short delays at the railroad crossing on Lucia Falls Road when heavy equipment is accessing the line at the crossing or train passes. The automatic lights and crossing arm will be disabled during this time. Flaggers will stop traffic to allow trains to pass.

Additional maintenance work on the railroad includes painting bridge bearings on the railroad bridge crossing Northeast Highway 99, to the south of Northeast Minnehaha Street/Northeast 63rd Street. Lane closures will be required although at least one lane in each direction will be open at all times.

Project updates will be posted at clark.wa.gov/public-works/railroad-projects.

Update: Lucia Falls Road will not be closed while crews are w0rking in the area. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the road would be closed.
