Letter: Administration undermines schools

By Betty Montgomery, Vancouver
Published: April 22, 2025, 6:00am

I’m horrified to watch this administration begin to roll out the plans for education from Project 2025, especially:

  • The elimination of Head Start preschool for 800,000 children;
  • The elimination of Title I funding to districts with low-income children;
  • The diversion of public education funds to religious and private schools;
  • The end of student debt relief, sending loan applicants into the general loan market;
  • The end of teachers’ ability to unionize;
  • Dictation to schools of what may be said about diversity, equity, inclusion, race, history and LGBTQ+ topics.

Please Google “Project 2025 Education Plan” for more depth. This plan certainly does not support my expectations for the education of our youth. If you agree, I hope you’ll speak out to local, state and federal officials.
