As a high school student nearing graduation, I feel I offer an important perspective on this urgent public issue. Greenhouse gas emissions don’t just harm the environment but create economic challenges. From job markets to global trade, greenhouse gases impact the economy.
We’ve failed to make changes to reduce emissions, such as investing in renewable energies within a strong government that demonstrates reason and streamlined regulations.
Energy production is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas, and renewables are now cheaper than ever. If we push to use more electric-powered systems instead of gas-powered systems, our electricity becomes cleaner. Moving to electric vehicles, heating and overall industrial electrification would significantly reduce the use of gas-powered systems and stabilize the economy.
Nature provides solutions too: Ending deforestation; restoring trees and wetlands; cleaning and protecting the ocean, air, soils. Absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere by protecting carbon sinks fights climate change and regulates the planet’s temperatures.
