Letter: Heartlessness and homelessness

By Deborah Garlington, Vancouver

Considering tenant-based housing (“Legal complexities in alternative housing: A cautionary tale from Clark County,” The Columbian, April 12)? Prime example where compassion and greed collide. Eye-opener learning about Lake Merwin’s sales tactics, keeping $8,000, and Arizona resident Rudolph Schmelka, $12,000.

Could they not have given this young man, 22-year-old Nate Brinton, the gift of a huge learning opportunity, rather than leaving him homeless? People can be so heartless.
