Letter: Perez represents entire district

By Deborah Rissman, BATTLE GROUND

I am disheartened by the sustained public criticism of Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, coming from district Democrats. I understand why they wish she would vote strictly along party lines, but to suggest she has “bought into the MAGA narrative” is absurd. Her job is to represent the entire district, not just urban progressives.

It seems these critics have learned nothing from the 2024 presidential election, when voters rejected Kamala Harris’ progressive agenda and elected Donald Trump instead. Marie is a moderate Democrat who understands the need for compromise. If her detractors can’t let go of their all-or-nothing rigidity, her seat may well go to a Republican next time.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
