Less than a week to go in April and I’m not seeing that much rain heading our way. There is an upper-level low pressure system that will be sliding down the coast on Friday setting up shop in Northern California for a few days. That doesn’t mean we are out of the woods with showers because there will be a return circulation of air that may be strong enough to provide us with some April showers. They would be scattered and light, so we keep a small chance of showers Friday through the weekend.
Higher pressure builds inland Monday, and we keep the remaining April showers in the chance category next Tuesday and Wednesday. Vancouver is running way behind in rainfall this month and will certainly end up below average given the present forecast.
Some of you had frost early Tuesday morning; I know I did. I’m glad I covered up my potted plants that I allowed to remain outdoors to catch a few sun rays. I don’t see any killing frosts on the horizon. I’ll play it safe and wait a couple of weeks until Mother’s Day to plant my warm-weather crops.
Still a little snow on Silver Star and I keep firm with the old saying that frost is still possible if snow remains on that mountain. Many neighborhoods in Vancouver are now passing their average last frost date for the spring months, but colder outlying areas are still prone to killing frosts for another month or so. Be sure and keep that in mind with warm-weather plants, should we get clearing skies after a cold front.
