Michael Rovig and Maddux Blunt pitched a combined no-hitter as Prairie baseball beat Kelso 1-0 on Tuesday to clinch the 3A Greater St. Helens League’s top seed.
Cam McRae singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Falcons their second win in as many days over the Hilanders.
Prairie (10-6, 9-1) now has two chances to clinch the 3A GSHL title outright, starting Thursday against Kelso (14-5, 8-3). The Falcons then conclude league play Monday against Heritage.
Rovig had six strikeouts, allowing just one walk over six innings. Blunt then pitched the seventh inning, getting an inning-ending groundout after two Kelso runners reached by a walk and an error.
Jake Drogos opened the bottom of the seventh with a single, advanced to second on a bunt and reached third on a wild pitch. McRae then drove him home with a line drive to right on a 1-1 count.
That was the only blemish in an otherwise outstanding outing by Kelso pitcher Bryce Collins. The junior had 15 strikeouts, allowing just two walks and three hits.
It was the second consecutive day Prairie’s pitching stymied Kelso’s bats. Isaac Watson held the Hilanders to just three hits in an 8-0 win Monday.
