1. Suspect arrested after shooting at Jaggy Road Park in central Vancouver leaves man, 21, dead

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at Jaggy Road Park in central Vancouver. Police said they arrested the suspected shooter nearby.

Machou M. Machou, 23, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. He will make a first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.

2. C-Tran board agrees to reconsider light rail financing for I-5 Bridge replacement

C-Tran’s board of directors plans to reconsider sharing the cost of running light rail across a planned Interstate 5 Bridge replacement.

TriMet estimates it will cost $20.2 million a year to operate a light rail line into Vancouver once the new bridge is in place.

3. Federal funding freeze: Clark County governments, schools, nonprofits looking for answers

Clark County governments, schools and nonprofits are scrambling for information about how a White House order to freeze all federal grants and loans will impact Clark County projects and programs — including the Interstate 5 Bridge replacement.

Council for the Homeless spokeswoman Nneka Coxeff said the freeze will have devastating effects on the county’s homelessness services, many of which receive federal funds.

4. Woodland man charged with hit-and-run resulting in death after victim dies at hospital

A Woodland man is now charged with hit-and-run resulting in death after police say the woman he struck Jan. 11 in Battle Ground died almost two weeks later in the hospital.

Clarence “Butch” Holt II, 59, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court. A judge set Holt’s bail at $75,000, which records show he posted.

5. Camas residents file lawsuit to block gas station development on 13th Street

CAMAS — Camas residents concerned that a proposed gas station complex near Union High School may pose significant environmental, traffic and safety risks have sued the city, saying it used outdated maps when approving the development.

Eight neighbors of the site, 20101 N.E. 13th St., filed suit Jan. 17 in Clark County Superior Court.
