Bella Hewes got on a roll early at the Class 3A state bowling championships. That was enough to once again put the Prairie senior among the state’s best.
Hewes finished third in the individual competition Wednesday in Tukwila one year after placing fifth at state. Her final score of 1104 was 69 pins behind champion Samyia Gildon of Thomas Jefferson.
After starting with 186, Hewes rolled 223 in the second of six games Wednesday. She then followed up with 203 in the third game before finishing with 152, 156 and 184.
Only five other bowlers had two games of 200 or more and only Gildon broke 200 three times.
