Letter: Support Battle Ground levy

By Richard Mattson, Vancouver
Published: February 5, 2025, 6:00am

Some who oppose Proposition 8, Battle Ground schools’ levy proposal, argue, “Test results are terrible, so why keep paying for failure?” This is a flawed argument. Withholding funds needed for essentials like quality curriculum, smaller class sizes, sports, arts programs and more will only undermine student learning.

District leadership must have the resources needed to support strengths and address shortcomings, especially in an inflationary environment. Further, as a society, we are responsible for other critical learning factors — creating a safe, stable home environment where education is valued, motivating our children to succeed, augmenting their learning at home and reinforcing their accomplishments. How well would we test in these areas? Please vote “yes” for this levy.
