Girls basketball roundup (Feb. 6): Jenna Klopman powers playoff-bound Washougal in regular-season finale

Jenna Klopman’s game-high 23 points gave the playoff-bound Washougal girls basketball team a 78-60 road win Thursday to close out the 2A Greater St. Helens regular-season. 

Klopman, a junior guard, had 13 of her points in the fourth quarter, as part of a 24-point final 8 minutes for the Panthers. Teja Slyter and Riley Vaughn added 15 points apiece.

Washougal (8-11) is the No. 5 seed out of the 2A GSHL and hosts Aberdeen, the 2A Evergreen Conference’s fourth-place team, in a pigtail play-in game Feb. 12. The winner advances to the double-elimination district tournament next Friday against 2A GSHL champion Columbia River. 

Lyla Taylor led Hockinson (2-19) with 22 points, and Delaney Wray chipped in 19.

2A Greater St. Helens League

MARK MORRIS 56, R.A. LONG 32 — The Monarchs outscored the Lumberjills 21-5 in the second quarter on their way to earning their 10th league win. 

Both teams are postseason bound. Mark Morris, the 2A GSHL’s third-place team, travels to face Black Hills, runners-up of the 2A Evergreen Conference, to open district tournament play next Friday, Feb. 14. 

R.A. Long, the league’s sixth-place team, travels to Tumwater, for a district play-in game next Wednesday, Feb. 12. 

MM got 13 points apiece from Madylin Guay and Reese Johnston and 11 by Kialani Makaiwi. 

Alauna Brown led R.A. Long with 11. 

RIDGEFIELD 63, HUDSON’S BAY 11 — The Spudders earn the 2A GSHL’s No. 4 seed and travel to W.F. West, champions of the 2A Evergreen Conference, to open the district tournament next Friday. 

1A Trico League

LA CENTER 52, FORT VANCOUVER 45 — Riley Schultz’s 17 points and 13 from Paige Sherry helped the Wildcats (7-13) conclude the season with a home victory. 

Lillien Smith poured in a season-high 24 points for Fort, and Relleesha Lewis added 12. 

KALAMA 58, CASTLE ROCK 46 Aubrey Doerty recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals in the Chinooks victory. She also had six assists and four blocked shots.

Hannah Johnson scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Bridgette Hollifield had 11 points with four rebounds and two assists for Kalama (12-8, 9-5 Trico).

Sophia Buchanan led Castle Rock (8-12, 5-9) with 15 points, all on 3-pointers.

3A Greater St. Helens League

KELSO 67, HERITAGE 20 — After ending the regular-season with a 3A GSHL road win, the Hilanders host Shelton (14-6) at 2 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the bi-district tournament.
