The Washougal School Board unanimously agreed to begin negotiations with interim schools superintendent Aaron Hansen on a three-year contract to lead the school district.
Hansen has worked for the district since 2001 and was made interim superintendent in April, when former superintendent Mary Templeton left the district for a job in the Seattle area.
“I was elated, very excited and certainly humbled by the level of support from the board members,” Hansen said. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to continue doing the work that we’ve been doing this year.”
The district conducted a community survey in December to solicit feedback about the superintendent position and received about 100 responses. Les Brown, the district’s director of communication, said respondents indicated they were concerned about the costs associated with casting a wider net for the superintendent position.
