Letter: Trump rejects compassion

I watched and listened to Bishop Mariann Budde speak at the National Prayer Service. The soft-spoken bishop presented a beautiful message asking President Donald Trump to base his presidency on mercy, love and compassion. The message was a heartfelt request, based directly from Scripture, to treat others with love and mercy with regard to immigrants, those living in fear, people different than we are and the downtrodden.

Trump was so angry by the bishop’s message that he demanded an immediate apology for him and the country. The president then described the bishop as “nasty and the message boring and uninspiring by a radical left hard line Trump hater.”

One would think that a true self-proclaimed “God’s chosen president” would have no trouble understanding or listening to the Word, especially one that was shown God’s mercy when an assassin’s bullet missed by mere inches.
