Letter: Consider cost of light rail on bridge

To the C-Tran board regarding light rail: You’ve been hoodwinked. They asked you to change your stance against not paying for light rail. That your vote to endorse light rail by removing the words “will not pay taxes” to “may pay taxes” wouldn’t change a thing. You were lied to, without a doubt.

I also find it interesting that the $20 million figure apparently came after you released your operating budget in which you apparently have a cushion to rely on. I’m sure the figure will be much greater, as cost overruns will be passed on to all Clark County residents and businesses.

And because light rail is the most costly public transportation to install, as TriMet advances farther into the county, it will be entirely on our backs. Because Interstate 5 is the only international freight corridor in the entire U.S., it just doesn’t make sense to replace a six-lane bridge with a six-lane bridge considering the growth our community is expected to have over the next 30 to 50 years. Drop light rail from the bridge and build a bridge that meets future freight demands. I urge you all to vote against it.
