Forty firefighters spent nearly an hour Monday morning battling a blaze at a self-storage facility, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Firefighters responded shortly after 9 a.m. to Additional Self Storage, 11000 N.E. Burton Road in east Vancouver. The agency dispatched 16 units — about 40 firefighters along with command staff — with the first units on scene finding one of the buildings on fire with heavy smoke billowing from several of the storage units.

Firefighters forced the doors open on several lockers, removed items from the units when needed and aggressively attacked the fire.

“It took nearly fifty minutes to bring the fire under control while crews made efforts to save and preserve the personal items in the affected units,” according to the fire department.

One lane of westbound Burton Road was closed for firefighting efforts.

There were no reports of injuries, but several units were damaged and some of the items in the lockers were destroyed.

Clark Public Utilities and Vancouver police also responded.

The Vancouver fire marshal is investigating.
