Officials on Tuesday identified a 21-year-old Vancouver man as the person fatally shot Jan. 29 at a park in the Van Mall neighborhood.

Jerry Moises Lopez Flores died from multiple gunshot wounds. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide, meaning it resulted from another person’s deliberate action. The ruling does not make any judgments about criminal culpability.

Vancouver police responded at 4:24 p.m. to Jaggy Road Park in the 4500 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Lopez Flores, dead, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Officers detained Machou Machou, 23, who police say was running away and matched the shooter’s description. During a later interview, officers said Machou admitted to shooting the man, according to court records.

Machou is charged in Clark County Superior Court with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, and his bail is set at $2 million.

Lopez Flores’ family created a GoFundMe for his funeral expenses. It can be found at gofund.me/542ad271.
