Snake dance
The Vancouver Chinese Association will host a Vancouver Lunar New Year Gala from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Skyview High School, 1300 N.W. 139th St., Vancouver, ushering in the Year of the Snake. There will be live performances by local artists, kids’ games and crafts, an art and calligraphy show and a complimentary light meal. Love Street Playhouse, 126 Loves Ave., Woodland, presents “The Miracle Worker,” showing Friday through March 9. This Tony Award-winning play is the story of Annie Sullivan and her blind and deaf student, Helen Keller. Only Sullivan sees a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued. NatureScaping Wildlife Botanical Gardens will host Mushroom Hunting for Beginners from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Center for Agriculture, Science and Environmental Education, Building B, Room 205, 11104 N.E. 49th St., Brush Prairie. Naturalist Rebecca Lexa will teach about local edible mushrooms and where to find them, emphasizing how to distinguish which are edible and which are poisonous. Class is $15. Laughing matter
Leave Your Troubles at the Door is an improv stand-up comedy showcase where the audience’s problems help create the jokes. Audience members anonymously write their problems down, put them in a box before the show and comedians take on those issues with on-the-spot jokes. Comics are Juan Duran, Kyle Adams and Amanda Lynn Deal, hosted by Chris Hudson. The 21-and-older show is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Orchards Tap, 10514 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver.
