Clark County and Southwest Washington woke up to roads and driveways covered in snow on Valentine’s Day.
The region, including the Portland area, remains under a winter storm warning through 10 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Portland. There is still a chance of more heavy wet snow this morning, along with a chance of freezing rain.
The temperature was 29 degrees at 6:30 a.m. at Pearson Air Field in Vancouver. Today’s high is expected to be 40 degrees with a low of 33 overnight, according to the weather service.
Saturday and Sunday will see highs in the mid-40s with rain and overnight lows above freezing.
A cold weather advisory remains in effect through noon.
Schools are closed across the region, including WSU Vancouver and Clark College. ESD 112 plans to open to in-person services at 11 a.m.
Most of the highways and roads across the county were empty of cars but blanketed with snow early Friday morning. In some areas, the snow covers a layer of ice. Officials warn people to stay home if they can and drive cautiously if they must go out. Bridges and overpasses are especially slick this morning.
The city of Vancouver is closed to in-person services today, as are Vancouver Police Department’s east and west precincts.

Clark County Superior Court will be closed in the morning but is planning to open for regular operations at 1 p.m. More information and updates are available at clark.wa.gov/superior-court.

The city of Battle Ground plans to open at 10 a.m.

“Buses with chains are limited to 25 miles an hour,” said Eric Florip, manager of communications and marketing for C-Tran. “If you’re out traveling, make sure you’re dressed for conditions and be able to stay warm, given that some buses will be delayed.”

A break in the wind, which was gusting up to 31 mph in Vancouver on Thursday morning helped utility crews get a handle on the power outages.
