VANCOUVER — A Seton Catholic High School senior has won two awards from the Sons of the American Revolution. Josie Abbott, a daughter of Steve and Helene Abbott of Vancouver, placed first at both the local and state level in the lineage group’s youth video contest.

Abbott, who is an Eagle Scout with Troop 5479, earned $1,000 for her finish at state and another $100 for winning the local event.

In her video, Abbott portrayed a forgotten Revolutionary War heroine named Sybil Ludington, who, like Paul Revere, made a midnight ride to warn colonists of the arrival of British troops. In producing her video, Abbott completed detailed research on Sybil Ludington and wrote the script, recorded the voiceover and created artwork to visually support her story.

In addition, Abbott placed third among seven finalists from across the state in an Eagle Scout Essay contest sponsored by SAR. She had placed first at the local Fort Vancouver Chapter contest. In her essay, Abbott researched and detailed the life of her ancestor, Cudbeth Stone, who was a hero during the American Revolution.
