Three local wrestlers earned district titles Saturday at the 2A District 4 girls wrestling tournament at Hudson’s Bay High School.
Lillian Hulegaard of Ridgefield won three matches by pin and one by medical forfeit to win the 120-pound division. She beat Victoria Nicasio with a pin in 58 seconds in the championship match.
Aliyha Vargas of Washougal won all three of her matches by pin, the last coming 1:05 against Elizabeth Ibarra of Ridgefield, to claim the 145-pound division title.
And Ma’Ressa Gibson won both of her matches by pin, beating Caroline Coty of Tumwater in 1:52 in the final to win the 235-pound title.
Couly McReynolds of Woodland lost a hard-fought battle to Eva Reinitz of W.F. West in the championship match at 115 pounds. Reinitz won, 11-10.
Josephine Sully of R.A. Long (130), Teagan Trenda of Hockinson (135) and Nicolette Hulse of Ridgefield (140) earned runner-up finishes.
1A/2B/1B GIRLS WRESTLING — Kadence Neumeyer and Taylor Kirby of Castle Rock and Sophia Mahoney of Stevenson all claimed titles at the 1B/2B/1B District 4 girls wrestling tournament at Montesano.
Neumeyer won three matches by fall, including a win over Peyton Johnson of Forks in 4:23 in the final to win the 120-pound division.
Kirby also won three matches by fall, including a pin of Regen Minnis of Stevenson in 28 seconds in the final, to win the 130-pound title.
Mahoney won two matches by fall, including a pin in 1:22 over Flora Horejsi of Forks, to win the 105-pound title.
Other locals to earn runner-up finishes included Eda O’Connor (110) of Columbia-White Salmon and Dana Bautista (140) of Fort Vancouver.
Gymnastics
Abigail Mendoza of Prairie won the all-around title and Columbia River claimed the team title at the 3A/2A/1A District 4 meet Saturday at Naydenov Gymnastics.
Mendoza won the vault (8.9) and beam (9.325) on her way to all-around title at 35.825. Sloan Atkins of Columbia River was second (35.15) and Abby Gherman of Ridgefield was third (34.9) in the all-around.
Atkins won the floor exercise with a score of 9.25. Lexi Voulkidis of Ridgefield won the bars at 9.45.
River won the team title (169.350) over Prairie (158.875) to earn the team berth to next week’s state meet in Belleuve.
