Evergreen girls basketball head coach Charles Neal is out for the remainder of the season after he was ejected late in a playoff game Friday for picking up two technical fouls.

Evergreen Public Schools Athletic Director Cale Piland confirmed the news Tuesday, citing a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rule that states, “The second ejection in the same sport and season for that individual shall result in being suspended for the remainder of the season of that sport.”

During Evergreen’s 63-37 win over Lakes on Friday in the first round of the Class 3A bi-district playoffs, game officials assessed two technical fouls to Evergreen’s bench in separate instances of the fourth quarter. The latter technical foul, which was called with under a minute remaining, resulted in Neal, Evergreen’s third-year coach, being ejected from the game.

It was Neal’s second ejection of the season, setting in motion the WIAA rule barring a coach from finishing the season.

Assistant coach Anthony Lamberth is serving as Evergreen’s acting head coach for the remainder of the postseason, Piland said, which included Evergreen’s 59-46 loss to White River on Saturday, one night after the Lakes game.

The Plainsmen will play host to fellow 3A Greater St. Helens League team Kelso in a playoff elimination game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
