Commuters can expect morning commute delays Thursday on north and southbound Interstate 5 near Woodland, La Center and Ridgefield.

Washington State Department of Transportation crews will slow traffic in both directions starting at 9 a.m. to complete critical tree removal, the department said in a news release.

The department said traffic will be controlled with a rolling slowdown to give crews time to safely do the work.

The northbound slowdown will begin at Milepost 12.5, with delays expected near exits 14 and 16 at Ridgefield and La Center. The southbound slowdown will start at Milepost 24, with delays expected near exits 21 and 22 in Woodland.

The agency said the slowdowns will be in affect for about 15 minutes, but drivers should expect backups to increase commute times.

The department encourages drivers to use caution in the work zone and to follow advanced warning signs.
