Husubis’ Poke Shop is bringing aloha spirit to Vancouver

Tasty food also available at city farmers markets

Husubis’ Poke Shop gets its name from owner Hugh Yamashiro’s high-school side gig.

It’s a mix of his name (Hugh) and the beloved Hawaiian Spam, rice, and seaweed snacks (musubi) he would assemble with a friend and sell to classmates.

Yamashiro makes it clear that Husubis’ Poke Shop wouldn’t exist without the hard work and encouragement from his business partner and fiancee, Kim Nguyen, as well as a nudge from his aunt Deva Yamashiro, a beloved Hawaiian native who moved to Vancouver and founded the Ke Kukui Foundation as well as the annual 4 Days of Aloha...
