Battle Ground police arrested a suspect who allegedly stole merchandise from a Walmart while brandishing a knife on Friday, according to Battle Ground police.
Raymond Baca, 35, was booked into the Clark County Jail on first-degree theft and second-degree robbery charges. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation in Portland.
About 1:35 p.m., police responded to the Walmart at 1201 S.W. 15th Ave. in Battle Ground after witnesses reported a man attempting to leave the store with a shopping cart full of $1,500 worth of merchandise. When employees confronted the man, later identified as Baca, he reportedly pulled out a knife and made threatening gestures before fleeing the scene, according to a statement from Battle Ground police.
Officers arrived at the store and soon located Baca in a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. He did not leave his vehicle, resulting in a brief standoff, according to police. After negotiating, Baca left the vehicle and was arrested.
