In the Community: Dragon boat paddlers wanted

Ridgefield’s dragon boat team is looking for experienced and beginning paddlers alike to join its crew for the 2025 season.

An informational meeting is set for Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at Ridgefield Craft Brewing Taphouse.

Ridgefield’s “Team Calapya” is in its third year and competes in several events around the region. Those include the Portland Rose Festival, the World Beat Festival in Salem and the Paddle for Life in Ridgefield.

The dragon boat season runs March 16 through Oct. 4. Practices are Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10 to 11:45 a.m. New members can try three trial practices with no commitment necessary and where paddles and life jackets are provided.

For those not ready to join the team, free community paddles will take place June 20 through Oct. 4 each Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Tennis gear donations sought for girls

Vancouver Tennis Center is accepting donations of new or gently used girls tennis gear for its annual Girls’ Gear Giveaway, which leads into the high school season.

Items can be dropped off through March 5 at VTC, located at 5300 E. 18th St., in Vancouver next to Fort Vancouver High School.

The Girls’ Gear Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All Southwest Washington high school girls tennis players are welcome to the give away.

Fairgrounds to host club volleyball tournament

March Mania, one of eight events on the Pacific Northwest Power Series, is bringing high-level club volleyball to the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds.

Girls volleyball club teams ranging from 12 to 18 years old will compete March 22-24 on several courts at the Events Center.

The Pacific Northwest Power Series began with the Seattle MLK Kickoff and MLK Oregon Kickoff tournaments in January. It concludes with the Emerald City Classic Invitational May 24-26.

Club soccer registration open

Registration is open for FC Salmon Creek’s spring 2025 season.

Boys and girls teams are available for ages 6-19. Skill levels range from Recreational teams that welcome all to the Advanced Competition Program for players interest in competing at the highest level of club soccer.
