BELLEVUE — Gabriella Howard and Carly Christ were proud of how they each competed Saturday at the 4A state gymnastics meet.
But more importantly, they were proud of each other.
The Union teammates placed second and third on the vault and Christ added a third-place finish on the bars as the Titans capped their season.
“I was very proud of her; she did good,” Christ said. “I’m very proud of myself too. I thought I did pretty good.”
“And I’m very proud of Carly,” Howard added.
Howard scored 9.475 to finish second behind Rylee Evans of Puyallup (9.550), and Christ followed in third at 9.400.
Christ, who finished fourth in the all-around on Friday, also placed in a three-way tie for third on the uneven bars with Addi Reynolds of Auburn and Dezlyn Ludquist of Mead at 9.250.
“I thought today went great,” Christ said. “I’m very proud of all the things I did. I did everything I came out here to do.”
Camas’ Sneha Shankar was the other local gymnast to reach the podium on Saturday, placing sixth in the vault at 9.250.
Saturday’s meet capped the high school gymnastics season that saw the Union team draw closer together like a family, Christ said.
“This is my first year doing high school (gymnastics), so it was really nice,” Howard said. “It’s a very fun community that we have. And they’re kind of like my sisters now.”
