A Vancouver man died Monday morning after investigators say he suffered a medical event and crashed his SUV on the Interstate 5 exit at 78th Street.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash at 11:13 a.m. They determined Richard L. Willard, 79, was driving a Chevrolet Suburban north on I-5. His SUV veered onto the right shoulder and scraped the concrete barrier before driving into the grass. The SUV came to a stop after hitting a chain-link fence, according to a State Patrol crash memo.
Willard was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined the crash was caused by Willard suffering from a medical event, the memo states.
