Camas and Washougal will hold a series of information sessions about a proposed Regional Fire Authority, which will be on the April 22 special election ballot.

The sessions will provide opportunities for residents to hear from experts, learn about the proposal and ask questions before casting a vote, according to a news release.

The sessions will be 6 to 7 p.m. March 11 at Camas-Washougal Fire Station 42, 4321 N.W. Parker St., Camas; 7 to 8 p.m. March 18 at the Washougal Community Center, 1681 C St., Washougal; and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Port of Camas-Washougal, 24 A St., Washougal. The cities will also offer Zoom webinars from 6 to 7 p.m. March 12 and noon to 1 p.m. March 19.

A Regional Fire Authority is an independent agency that provides fire and emergency medical services with one governing board representing residents in multiple cities.

Cams and Washougal officials believe the authority would offer a higher level of service for residents, streamline operations and provide a more cost-effective funding model for emergency services, according to the news release.

“We encourage all residents to attend one of these sessions to better understand how the RFA proposal could affect our fire and emergency services,” Camas-Washougal Fire Department Chief Cliff Free said in the news release. “These sessions are designed to provide clear, factual information, and offer a space for community members to ask questions and engage with experts on this important topic.”
