Portland Pilots pitcher Ryan Rembisz made history on Tuesday, throwing the 37th perfect game in NCAA Division I history, the 21st in a nine-inning game and the first in Pilots history in an 8-0 win over Seattle University at Joe Etzel Field.
And Skyview High grad Tyler Howard had the best view of anyone — the junior is the starting catcher for the Pilots.
Rembisz, a left-hander from Woodinville, struck out 12 in the Pilots’ fourth overall no-hitter and first since 1958.
Howard also backed up Rembisz with a big day at the plate by going 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI single, and scoring two runs.
Howard is now hitting .345 through Portland’s first eight games after going 6 for 13 (.462) in his last three games.
Senior Riley McCarthy, a Mountain View High grad, contributed in the perfect game by going 1 for 3 and making a put out in right field.
