The Vancouver Arts and Music Festival, July 31 to Aug. 3 in Esther Short Park, seeks visual artists for a juried art exhibit Aug. 1-3 celebrating creativity, culture and community. The exhibit highlights the themes of collaboration, inclusivity and the community’s diverse identities. Artists of all disciplines and backgrounds can submit original 2D and 3D work. The $30 application fee covers up to three entries; the deadline to apply is June 7. The exhibit features five awards, each with a $300 cash prize. Please Don’t Die Black Men is hosting casting calls for two short films, “First Date” and “A Lunch in Ghana.” Auditions for both films are 4 to 6 p.m. March 6 and 20 at Bridgeview Resource Center, 505 Omaha Way, Vancouver. “First Date” is a comedy exploring the insecurities and inner thoughts of two teens navigating their first date. Casting is for “Guy 1,” a shy, nervous teenager. Auditioners must be under 18 with signed consent from a parent or guardian. Auditioners should be ready to read from the script; samples will be provided.
“A Lunch in Ghana” depicts a fictional lunch gathering in 1960s Ghana with civil rights icons Malcolm X, Maya Angelou, W.E.B. Du Bois and Shirley Graham Du Bois. Actors of all ages, genders and backgrounds are invited to audition for lead and supporting roles. Actors should be familiar with the script and be prepared to read for multiple roles.
