Dez Daniel scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack for Evergreen as the Plainsmen used a big second quarter to beat Battle Ground 76-64 in a non-league boys basketball game Saturday in Battle Ground.
Darren Schmitt and Kai Speer scored 11 each, CJ Johnson scored 10 and Damarien Walden and Tony Hopson added nine each for Evergreen, which used a 27-point second quarter to open a 43-33 halftime lead.
James Gill III led Battle Ground (3-8) with 15 points. Brayden Andrews scored, and Collin McGowan had 12 points for the Tigers.
Evergreen, which has won three of its last four, opens 3A Greater St. Helens League play on Friday against Heritage after a non-league game Monday against Camas.
GLACIER PEAK 69, SKYVIEW 41 — Malakai Weimer scored 10 points for Skyview, which could not keep up with a talented Glacier Peak team in Snohomish.
Josiah Lee scored 24 points to lead the Grizzlies, which opened up a 34-21 halftime lead and did not look back.
Ryan Hanson and Landon Webb had eight each for the Storm (7-3).
Skyview coach Matt Gruhler called Glacier Peak a top-3 team in the state.
“They our executed us, and they had better energy throughout,” Gruhler said. “We crave the opportunity to take on the best in our program, and we will be better for it.”
KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 61, CORBETT (Ore.) 51 — Jackson Lovato scored a game-high 26 points and Patrick Carney added 14 as the Knights won a non-league home game.
SEASIDE (Ore.) 62, STEVENSON 36 — Jude Travinski scored eight points to lead the Bulldogs at the Happy Rock Holiday Invite in Gladstone, Ore.
MARK MORRIS 72, BLACK HILLS 50 — Dalton Stevens scored 23 points and Carson Bogner had 16 points as the Monarchs won a non-league home game.
“This was a good win for us,” Mark Morris coach Ken Kelly said. “We had a good start, but they outscored us 22-14 in the second quarter to make it a five-point game at half. The team responded well in the second half, outscoring them 38-21. This was a team effort all the way around, with everyone contributing in different ways.”
Girls basketball
KALAMA 56, ELMA 43 — Aubrey Doerty had 25 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks as the Chinooks gained control in the second quarter and never looked back.
Hannah Johnson added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Kalama.
“We’ve been working hard to finish at the rim and stay hungry for the ball,” said Kalama coach Amber Doerty, who also noted outstanding defensive play by Delaney Rinard, Rylie Cadigan and Bridgette Hollifield.
