Letter: Choose a Biblical view

Dear President-Elect Donald Trump: Please keep your mitts off and your minions at bay, especially Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on the West Coast, including Oregon, which has declared itself a sanctuary state. During your campaign, you trumpeted states’ rights. We are only asking you to keep your promise.

I understand the Roman Catholic Conference of Bishops sent you a missive that basically said, “When you come after immigrants, be sure to look into their eyes to see the face of Christ.”

As an evangelical Christian, that, in turn, reminds me of our Lord’s compelling words in Matthew 25: “Just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.” May Jesus himself be the arbiter of your attempt to remove so many immigrants on whom so much of our economy depends.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
