Letter: Protect Yacolt Burn

This writer, a Vietnam War veteran and native Washington citizen, comes back one more time to object to the proposed timber sale inside the Yacolt Burn State Forest in Clark County. State Department of Natural Resources, what are you doing? Giving local and state timber companies the right to clear-cut 140 acres of prime old-growth forest is outrageous and against all laws that preserve and protect this vital natural habitat! Again, the state chooses greed over common sense!

For 100 years, the Yacolt Burn area has been home to all kinds of fish and wildlife as well as providing recreation to local residents. Besides the spotted owl, this ancient forest provides a sanctuary to many game animals and birds that thrive there. To take out the trees would forever destroy what took years to grow. I see this as an attempt by timber interests to unlock the chain that protects forest land in the entire north end of Clark County and beyond. The Yacolt Burn belongs to all people of the state and should be left alone! The fate of all the trees, birds, and animals are in your hands. Stop this insane timber sale now!
