Officials on Wednesday identified 71-year-old Bruce David Weiser of Vancouver as the man firefighters found dead after a Dec. 7 house fire in Minnehaha.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said Weiser shot himself in the head during the fire. The agency determined he died from the gunshot wound and inhalation of combustible materials. It ruled his death a suicide, according to a news release.

The release also said the medical examiner’s office was unable to contact Weiser’s next of kin and asks anyone with information about his family to contact the office at 564-397-8405, option 3.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded at 1:36 a.m. to flames shooting from two sides of a one-story home in the 3200 block of Northeast May Street, according to a news release from the fire department.

A downed power line near the home created an electrical hazard and prevented fire trucks from parking in front of the house.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using multiple hose lines. When they searched the house, they found Weiser dead inside, according to the news release.
