Mount St. Helens Institute recently announced that Abi Groskopf and Alyssa Hoyt began serving as co-executive directors Jan. 1.
Groskopf has been with the organization for about 12 years, starting out as program staff. Her passion for Mount St. Helens and education, alongside her skills in nonprofit management, provide the institute with a steady, knowledgeable and confident co-director, according to a news release from the organization.
Hoyt began work with the institute as a volunteer and has served as acting executive director since May. Her love for the outdoors and community building — combined with her energy, drive and strategic thinking — complement Groskopf’s skills and knowledge, the institute said.
“Co-leadership is a strategic way to support both nonprofit leadership and organizational health,” Hoyt said in the news release. “When the challenges of leadership and the weight of an organization are distributed between two people, the organization is better for it. It provides an opportunity for collaboration, teamwork, and personal and organizational growth in a supported, healthy way.”
