Letter: Carter’s final gift

President Jimmy Carter deserves all the accolades he has received and more for a life well-lived. Not only as president, but his work to help humanity after leaving office. Now, he has potentially given us one final gift with his passing.

When a past president dies, flags at all government facilities are flown at half-staff for 30 days in their memory. So, unless he can find a way to violate that important gesture of respect, and certainly he will try, when Trump takes his oath of office to enter the White House again, all those flags should be at half-staff, indicating a nation in mourning.

You can’t get much more accurate than that. Thank you, President Carter, for your final gift to the American people.
