Future viability of fishery called into question

Anglers got a sturgeon retention season in the Bonneville and The Dalles pools in 2025.

However, both only lasted one day.

The Bonneville Pool fishery has exploded in popularity, mostly because the lower Columbia River sturgeon population can no longer support retention at any level. The fisheries in the Gorge pools are the only sturgeon retention opportunities in the Columbia River.
