Boys Basketball Roundup: Ethan Harris, Jace VanVoorhis lead Camas over Union

Ethan Harris and Jace VanVoorhis combined to score 49 points to lead the Camas boys basketball team to a 60-48 win over Union in each team’s 4A Greater St. Helens League opener Friday.

Led by Harris, who scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half, the Papermakers turned a three-point halftime lead into an eight point advantage entering the fourth.

Baskets from VanVoorhis and Cade Washington gave Camas its largest lead, 55-42, with 3 minutes, 37 seconds left in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

The Papermakers’ defense held Union to a season low in points scored.

Kody Holcomb had a team-high 19 points and Pat Howe chipped in 10 points for the Titans, who led 14-13 after the first quarter by closing on a 8-1 run.

SKYVIEW 72, BATTLE GROUND 52 — Malakai Weimer scored 23 points and Ryan Hanson added 21 points as the Storm earned a home win.

Weimer also had five rebounds, five assists and five steals as both he and Hanson played just three quarters.

Skyview (9-3, 1-0) outscored the Tigers 26-15 in the second quarter to take a 45-27 lead.

Collin McGowan scored 14 points and James Gill added 12 points for Battle Ground (3-9, 0-1).

3A Greater St. Helens League

HERITAGE 76, EVERGREEN 60 — Tyrell Cash scored 17 points to lead five Timberwolves in double-figures at home.

Delorian Holmes scored 15 points and Brooks Greenwald added 14 points, including three 3-pointers.

Richard Burns and Jose Zacarias each tallied 10 points for Heritage (5-8, 1-1).

The Timberwolves outscored Plainsmen 17-9 in the second quarter to open a 26-16 lead.

Dez Daniel scored 16 points and CJ Johnson added 15 points for Evergreen (4-8, 0-1).

MOUNTAIN VIEW 62, KELSO 59 — The Thunder survived a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Hilanders to escape with a home win.

Leading 58-37 after three quarters, Mountain View saw its lead cut to 61-59 inside the final minute.

Kelso (3-10, 0-2) had and final possession and missed two 3-point attempts inside the final 10 seconds.

Mountain View (9-4, 2-0) opened the second half on a 12-0 run to lead 47-22.

PRAIRIE 72, REYNOLDS (Ore.) 44 — Carson Morningstar scored 23 points and the Falcons got a standout defensive effort in a non-league home win.

Ben Nkansah scored 12 points as nine different players scored for Prairie (7-5).

No player scored more than 10 points as Reynolds, a Class 6A school in Troutdale, Ore., fell to 4-6.
