The 11th annual Clark Public Utilities Race for Warmth will offer multiple ways to exercise for a good cause.

Runners, walkers and cyclists will gather Sunday, Jan. 26 for the Vancouver event, which benefits the utility’s customer assistance program.

A 5K, 10K and 1K kids race will begin and end at the Clark Public Utilities office at 1200 Fort Vancouver Way. The kids race starts at 8:30 a.m. with the longer races beginning around 9 a.m.

In addition, a cycling event will start at 9 a.m. at Hudson’s Bay High School and follow a 16 mile out-and-back route to Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park.

Registration is $40 and available online at www.clarkpublicutilities.com/raceforwarmth. Day-of registration is available for $50.

All registration fees go to Operation Warm Heart, which helps Clark County households with utility expenses during a financial crisis. Since 1985, the donor-funded program has provided nearly $5 million to 19,000 utility customers.

There will be an onsite after-party with live music, food and games. Each participant will receive a long-sleeve shirt.

King’s Way volleyball benefits kids charity

On Friday, King’s Way Christian students dug, set and spiked to help local residents in need.

The school hosted its third annual Pass for a Purpose event, which is organized by the King’s Way volleyball team. Male students compete against each other on teams coached by female volleyball players.

But besides bragging rights and funding financial aid to the school, the event raises money for a different local charity each year. This year, Northwest Children’s Outreach was chosen.

“King’s Way is proud to offer this opportunity for students to gain awareness about the needs in the community, learn how to plan and execute an event, and live out the Christian values of King’s Way by making a positive impact in the community,” the school said in a press release.

Pass for a Purpose was created by volleyball alumna Natalie O’Neil, who graduated in 2024.

This year’s volleyball team chose Northwest Children’s Outreach specifically because of its focus on kids in the local community. This fall, volleyball players volunteered at NWCO by sorting and organizing donations.
